Der Musikalische Garten is a Basel-based ensemble specializing in Baroque music, founded by violinist Germán Echeverri Chamorro and Karoline Echeverri Klemm. The group includes three German musicians alongside Germán, performing on period instruments strung with natural gut strings. Their mission is to bring forgotten Baroque compositions back to life, often transcribing pieces from handwritten manuscripts found in libraries or archives. They have recorded several albums focusing on rare early music repertoire, such as baroque trio sonatas for detuned violins and concertos by Italian composer Giuseppe Antonio Brescianello.
The ensemble has gained recognition for its meticulous historically informed performances and has appeared at notable festivals like the Musikfestspiele Potsdam Sanssouci and the Händel-Haus in Halle. They also collaborated with violinist Gottfried von der Goltz on studio recordings of works by Gabrieli, Purcell, and Finger. Der Musikalische Garten has received international awards and continues to explore and record neglected gems from the Baroque era, making them a significant presence in the early music scene.
