Stone Temple Pilots emerged from the San Diego music scene and became one of the most influential rock bands of the 1990s. Formed in 1989, the group originally consisted of Scott Weiland (lead vocals), brothers Dean DeLeo (guitar) and Robert DeLeo (bass, backing vocals), and Eric Kretz (drums). They found massive success with their debut album, "Core," in 1992, fueled by hits such as "Plush" and "Sex Type Thing." This success continued with subsequent albums, including "Purple" and "Tiny Music... Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop," showcasing the band's ability to segue seamlessly between grunge-inflected hard rock, psychedelic rock, and melodic songwriting.
Stone Temple Pilots endured the tragic loss of Weiland in December 2015, which followed the departure of the frontman from the band in 2013. Despite the setback, the remaining members persevered, recruiting Jeff Gutt as the new lead vocalist in 2017. Gutt's inclusion injected a fresh vigor into the group, leading to their self-titled seventh studio album in 2018. Moreover, the band has celebrated its legacy by remastering and reissuing earlier works, including the 2021 remastered super deluxe edition of "Tiny Music," providing fans with rare and previously unreleased content. With their resilience and continued creativity, Stone Temple Pilots have proven themselves to be enduring figures in the rock music landscape, adapting to change while honoring their storied past.
