Gas

Gas is the influential electronic music project of German artist Wolfgang Voigt, who started it in 1995. Rooted in ambient and minimal techno, Gas's sound is a hypnotic blend of deep, bass-driven beats and lush, classical-inspired textures that evoke the feeling of wandering through a dense, mysterious forest. Voigt created Gas as a way to capture his experiences of the Königsforst forest near Cologne, combining nature sounds with electronic rhythms to “bring the forest to the disco.” The project went on hiatus in 2000 but was revived in the 2010s with new releases and reissues, gaining a devoted global following beyond the traditional electronic music scene.

Wolfgang Voigt, born in 1961, is a key figure in Cologne's electronic music scene and co-founder of the Kompakt label. Under Gas, he produced a series of acclaimed albums characterized by immersive, flowing soundscapes and minimal beats, including landmark releases like *Zauberberg*, *Königsforst*, and *Pop*. His work with Gas blends influences from classical music, techno, and nature, creating an evocative, melancholic atmosphere that stands out in electronic music.
