FAZI, an alternative and indie rock band from China, was formed in Xi'an in 2010. They are known for their atmospheric soundscapes and post-punk influences which blend seamlessly with poetic lyricism and a distinctly Eastern musical sensibility. The group consists of lead vocalist and guitarist Liu Peng, bassist Guan Xuejing, keyboardist Liang Liang, and drummer Tian Zhenhua. They've carved out a niche in the Chinese underground music scene with their emotive performances and cerebral approach to rock music, gaining a loyal following.
With a discography reflecting a deep introspection and social commentary, FAZI has continued to push the boundaries of the genre. Their releases like "Never Say Forever" and "Invisible Water" showcase a band unafraid to evolve, blending electronic elements with traditional rock instrumentation. Meanwhile, songs like "热死荒梁" (Re Si Huang Liang) and "死海" (The Dead Sea) display their ability to infuse local cultural motifs into their compositions, making their music resonate with audiences both within and outside of China. The band collaborates with other artists as well, such as their partnership with Omni Selassi on the track "Omni Selassi & Fazi," demonstrating their versatility and openness to experimentation. With singles like "Golden Cage" and "控制" (Control), FAZI continues to cement their status as one of the most intriguing and progressive outfits in the contemporary Asian music scene.
