Toto Guillaume

Toto Guillaume, born Guillaume Toto Bessawa Nkaké on August 25, 1955, is a renowned Cameroonian guitarist, composer, arranger, and producer. He is best known for his contributions to the Makossa genre, a style of music that originated in Cameroon. Toto Guillaume began his career in music by performing in school events and later joined the group "Black Styl's" in 1972. He gained significant recognition with his composition "Françoise," which topped the national charts in 1973. His album "Mba na na é" released in 1975, further solidified his success. Toto Guillaume also studied music at the Paris Conservatory, enhancing his skills in Western music techniques. He became a prominent studio musician in Paris and was part of the influential "équipe nationale du Makossa," a group of young musicians who played on many Cameroonian recordings in France during the late 1970s and 1980s.

Toto Guillaume's impact on the Makossa genre extends beyond his own music. He has been a producer for several Cameroonian artists, contributing to the international recognition of Makossa. Some of his notable works include the album "Elimbi Na Ngomo," released in 1985, which featured collaborations with the group KASSAV'. His recent releases, such as "Colden collection, Vol. 1," "Mont koupé," and "Paï a nyambe," continue to showcase his enduring influence in the music scene.
