Zoufris Maracas is a French music group known for their eclectic and vibrant melodies that combine social commentary with a fusion of world beats, drawing from a rich palette of genres such as reggae, chanson française, and African rhythms. Formed in 2007 by childhood friends Vincent Sanchez (a.k.a. Vinzou) and Michäel Benjelloun (a.k.a. Micho), the band was named in honorary remembrance of their fathers who, like many Zoufris (Algerian labor immigrants in France), came to build roads in the 1970s.
The band's lyrics, often infused with a sense of poetry and a sharp observational wit, critique social injustices and reflect on personal experiences, wrapped in music that makes you both think and dance. Over the years, Zoufris Maracas has cultivated a loyal fanbase and has taken their authentic sound to stages across France and internationally. Their discography, including various EPs and albums, showcases their ability to evolve, while their more recent remixes, like "Chienne de vie (Biguine Biguine Remix)" and "Bleu de lune (El Buho Remix)," demonstrate a playful engagement with the electronic music scene, adding new layers to their already rich soundscapes. With collaborations that have included talents like Flavia Coelho and Reyna Tropical, Zoufris Maracas continues to traverse musical boundaries and connect with audiences across different cultures and genres.
