Mary Springfels

Mary Springfels is a prominent American viola da gamba player and a leading figure in the early music scene. With a career spanning several decades, she's known for her passionate performances and scholarly approach to music from the Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque periods. She was a founding member of the early music ensemble The Newberry Consort and has performed with other renowned groups such as the Sequentia ensemble and the Waverly Consort.

In addition to her work as a performer, Springfels has been a committed educator, holding teaching positions and residencies at institutions like the Newberry Library in Chicago.
