Four Jacks and a Jill is a South African folk rock ensemble that formed in 1964. Originally known as "The Nevadas," they later changed their name after adding lead singer Glenys Lynne. The group gained significant popularity with hits like "Timothy" in South Africa and "Master Jack," which reached No. 18 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the U.S. in 1968. "Master Jack" also topped charts in several countries, including South Africa, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, and Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). Over the years, the band's lineup has included notable members such as Clive Harding on bass, Till Hanneman on guitar, Bruce Bark on lead guitar, and Tony Hughes on drums.
The band continued to produce music and even ventured into creating educational storybooks for South African charities. Their discography includes albums like "Jimmy Come Lately" and "The House with the White Washed Gables," as well as more recent instrumental releases such as "An African Tapestry" and "An African Safari." Despite their international success with "Master Jack," their subsequent releases did not achieve the same level of U.S. chart success, but they remained popular in South Africa.
