Shailendra Singh was an Indian playback singer who made a big splash in Bollywood in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Born in Mumbai in 1952, Singh got his big break when legendary filmmaker Raj Kapoor cast him to sing in the 1973 film "Bobby." His soulful rendition of "Main Shayar To Nahin" became a massive hit and launched his career as a popular playback singer. Singh went on to lend his voice to many chart-topping songs throughout the 70s and 80s, with tracks like "Humne Tumko Dekha" from "Khel Khel Mein" and "Jaane Do Na" from "Saagar" cementing his status as one of the top male vocalists of the era.
