Carlos Garnett

Carlos Garnett was a Panamanian-American jazz saxophonist known for his powerful playing and spiritual, exploratory style. Born in Panama in 1938, Garnett moved to New York City in the 1960s, where he became part of the vibrant jazz scene. He played with legendary artists like Freddie Hubbard, Charles Mingus, and most notably Miles Davis during Davis's electric period in the early 1970s. Garnett’s appearances on albums like On the Corner helped bridge jazz with funk and fusion elements.

Through the 1970s, Garnett released a series of his own albums that combined jazz, funk, spiritual themes, and Afro-Caribbean influences. His albums—including Black Love, Journey to Enlightenment, and Let This Melody Ring On—have become cult favorites among jazz-funk collectors. After taking a break from music in the 1980s, Garnett returned in the late '90s with a revitalized sound and continued recording into the 2000s, with releases like Under Nubian Skies and Fuego en Mi Alma. He’s remembered as a bold and spiritual voice in jazz with a singular style and message.
