The Dallas Symphony Orchestra (DSO) is a major American symphony orchestra based in Dallas, Texas. Founded in 1900, it’s one of the oldest orchestras in the U.S. and is best known today for its home at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center, a downtown Dallas concert hall that opened in 1989 and is widely praised for its acoustics.
Over the years, the DSO has built a wide-ranging reputation, from core classical repertoire—think Brahms symphonies and Mozart concertos—to big, dramatic works like Wagner and Mahler. The orchestra has also made numerous recordings and has toured internationally, helping put Dallas on the map as a serious classical-music town while still keeping things approachable for local audiences.
