Simian Mobile Disco

Simian Mobile Disco is an electronic music duo originating from England, comprised of James Ford and Jas Shaw. Formed in 2005, they first gained prominence as a splinter production team from the band Simian. Ford and Shaw quickly evolved beyond their remix roots, carving out a distinctive space in the world of synth-heavy dance music. Their early work was typified by its raw, pulsing energy, as showcased in their breakout hit "We Are Your Friends," a collaboration with Justice.

Over the years, Simian Mobile Disco's sound has matured, embracing a broader palette of textures and embracing more experimental forms of electronic music. Their most recent projects have seen them collaborate extensively with The Deep Throat Choir, a creative partnership that produced the critically-acclaimed album "Murmurations" in 2018. The fusion of Shaw's electronic wizardry with the haunting harmonies of the choir marked a new, more ethereal chapter for the duo. Tracks like "Hey Sister" and "Defender" blend the human voice with synthetic sounds to create lush, expansive sonic landscapes, while remixes like "Caught in a Wave (Jas Shaw Remixes)" serve to reinterpret the material with a fresh twist, showcasing the ever-evolving nature of their craft. Despite the tragic news of Shaw's ALS diagnosis, Simian Mobile Disco has continued to push the boundaries of electronic music, leaving an indelible mark on the genre.
