Grouper

Grouper is the ethereal solo project of artist and musician Liz Harris, whose work encapsulates the genre of ambient, dream-pop, and experimental music. Based in Portland, Oregon, Grouper has been captivating audiences since the early 2000s. Harris's signature sound is defined by its delicate interplay of looped guitar lines, hushed vocal harmonies, and a lo-fi aesthetic that feels intimate, as if whispered secretively into the listener's ear. Her compositions are often minimalistic, teeming with emotional depth and a haunting, otherworldly quality.

Throughout her prolific career, Grouper has released a series of critically acclaimed albums that have cemented her status as a key figure in the realm of experimental music. Her 2011 twin releases, "A I A: Dream Loss" and "A I A: Alien Observer," are prime examples of her ability to craft soundscapes that are as evocative as they are immersive. Notably, her 2014 album "Ruins" was recorded in Portugal and features a stripped-back approach, utilizing mainly piano and voice to achieve its poignant effect. Grouper's most recent work, "Shade," continues her tradition of contemplative music, blending field recordings with her signature layers of vocals and ambient sounds, offering a reflective and deeply personal sonic experience. Harris's work as Grouper remains emblematic of the power of music to express the ineffable, to touch the intangible aspects of human emotion and memory.
