Bakufu Slump

Bakufu Slump (爆風スランプ) is a Japanese rock band that formed in 1981. They’re best known for blending high-energy rock with a playful, sometimes comedic edge, and they scored major hits in Japan during the 1980s and early ’90s—most famously the sports anthem “Runner,” along with well-known singles like “Ramen Tabetai” and “Tokyo.” Their music often mixes catchy pop hooks with punchy band arrangements, making them a staple of that era’s mainstream rock scene.

The band’s classic lineup includes vocalist Sunplaza Nakano, guitarist Papaya Suzuki, bassist Baruchan, and drummer Fankey Sueyoshi. While they’ve had periods of reduced activity over the years, Bakufu Slump’s songs have remained widely recognized in Japan, and their catalog continues to be revisited through compilations and anniversary releases.
