Formed in 2001 in Atlanta, Georgia, Deerhunter is an American indie rock band known for their ambient, garage-influenced sound that incorporates aspects of noise pop and shoegaze. The band was initially founded by Bradford Cox, who serves as the group's lead singer and primary songwriter, and his high school friend Moses Archuleta, who has stood as the band's drummer. Their lineup solidified with the addition of guitarist Lockett Pundt, bassist Josh Fauver, and later, bassist Josh McKay and guitarist Frankie Broyles, though members have shifted through the years.
Deerhunter quickly became known for their unpredictable live shows and Cox's enigmatic stage presence. Their critical breakthrough came with their second album, "Cryptograms," in 2007, which captured their blend of atmospheric sounds and more traditional song structures. The subsequent releases "Microcastle" and "Weird Era Cont." were issued as a double album set in 2008, earning widespread acclaim and showcasing the band's evolving sound. Acclaimed efforts such as "Halcyon Digest" (2010) and "Monomania" (2013) solidified their place in the indie rock pantheon. The band continued pushing their sound into new territories with later albums like "Fading Frontier" (2015) and "Why Hasn't Everything Already Disappeared?" (2019), consistently demonstrating a willingness to experiment while maintaining a distinctive sonic identity.
