Gregor Joseph Werner was an Austrian composer and organist who lived from 1693 to 1766. He's best known for being Joseph Haydn's predecessor as Kapellmeister to the Esterházy family, a position he held for nearly 40 years. Werner composed a lot of church music, including masses, requiems, and other sacred works. While he might not be as famous as Haydn, Werner played an important role in the musical life of the Esterházy court and contributed significantly to the sacred music repertoire of his time.
