Cachao Y Su Combo was a musical project led by the legendary Cuban bassist and composer Israel "Cachao" López. Cachao is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of mambo music and a master of the descarga (improvised jam sessions). Born in Havana in 1918, Cachao came from a family of musicians and began his career at a young age, playing in various orchestras and bands. In the late 1930s, Cachao and his brother Orestes created the nuevo ritmo, which evolved into mambo. The combo likely refers to the group of musicians Cachao worked with for his recordings and performances, particularly in the realm of descargas, for which he became famous in the 1950s.
