Kardeş Türküler, which translates to "Ballads of Fraternity," is a music project that was born out of the cultural and musical diversity of Turkey and its surrounding regions. Formed in 1993 by a group of students from Boğaziçi University in Istanbul, the ensemble embarked on a path to showcase the rich mosaic of ethnic, religious, and linguistic communities that coexist in the area. Their music beautifully interweaves traditional Turkish folk sounds with influences from Kurdish, Armenian, Assyrian, Azeri, and Georgian cultures, among others, in a celebration of both diversity and common human experiences.
Throughout the years, Kardeş Türküler has been known for their vibrant live performances, in which they use a variety of traditional instruments and sing in multiple languages, reflecting a commitment to cultural exchange and understanding. Their discography, including tracks such as "Bu Kadar Parayı Sana Kim Verdi?" and "Mavi Yüzük Firuze," is marked by a deep respect for folklore while also engaging with contemporary social issues, hence their songs often resonating beyond mere auditory aesthetics to touch upon themes of peace, freedom, and solidarity. Notably, the ensemble has also composed soundtracks for Turkish films, like "Vizontele Tuuba," showcasing their versatility and widespread impact on Turkish arts and culture.
