Arunagirinathar

Arunagirinathar (also spelled Arunagirināthar) was a Tamil poet-saint, best known for composing the devotional Tamil hymns called **Thiruppugazh**, a celebrated body of songs in praise of Lord Murugan. His work is a major part of Tamil devotional literature and is widely sung and set to music in the Carnatic and bhajan traditions.

He is also associated with other Murugan-focused devotional compositions, including **Kandar Anubhoothi**. Today, Arunagirinathar’s verses continue to live on primarily through performances and recordings by later musicians, which is why his name often appears as the credited “artist” or composer on modern releases of Thiruppugazh and related works.
