Spite House

Spite House is a post-hardcore band from Montreal founded by vocalist and guitarist Maxime Lajoie after the personal loss of his mother to cancer in 2019. Driven by grief and a desire to channel his emotions, Maxime teamed up with longtime friend and drummer Marc Tremblay and later bassist Nabil Ortega, crafting music influenced by 90s post-hardcore acts like Samiam, Jawbreaker, and Seaweed. Their sound blends raw, emotive vocals with punchy guitars and anthemic punk energy, creating deeply personal and cathartic music.

Their self-titled debut album released in 2022 introduced listeners to this intense, heartfelt style, while their upcoming sophomore full-length, *Desertion* (set for September 2025), delves even deeper into themes of loss, personal struggle, and growth. *Desertion* is a concept album shaped by Maxime’s experiences of losing both parents—his father to suicide and his mother to cancer—and is noted for its visceral, emotionally charged atmosphere that resonates with fans of emotionally driven post-hardcore and punk.
