Micheline Presle

Micheline Presle was a celebrated French actress whose career began in 1937 and spanned over seven decades with more than 150 film appearances. Born Micheline Nicole Julia Émilienne Chassagne in Paris on August 22, 1922, she took acting classes as a teenager and was discovered by Georg Wilhelm Pabst early on. Presle quickly rose to prominence in French cinema, winning the Prix Suzanne Bianchetti in 1938 as the most promising young actress. She became known for her elegant and versatile performances, starring in notable films like *Devil in the Flesh* (1947) and *Paris Frills* (1945).

After establishing herself in France, she moved to Hollywood in the late 1940s following her marriage to American actor William Marshall, appearing in films such as *Under My Skin* (1950) and *Adventures of Captain Fabian* (1951), but struggled to gain lasting success in the U.S. Eventually, she returned to France where she continued a rich career in cinema, television, and theater well into the 2000s. Presle received several honors including the César Honorary Prize in 2004. She passed away in February 2024 at the age of 101, leaving behind a legacy as one of France’s enduring screen icons.
