Fourplay

Fourplay is an American contemporary jazz supergroup that has enjoyed remarkable stability and success in their genre since their inception in 1990. The original members—keyboardist Bob James, guitarist Lee Ritenour, bassist Nathan East, and drummer Harvey Mason—were already acclaimed musicians in their own rights before coming together to form a jazz quartet that proved to be greater than the sum of its parts. Ritenour later departed after the third album and was replaced by Larry Carlton, who was then succeeded by Chuck Loeb in 2010, until his passing in 2017. Despite these changes, Fourplay has maintained a consistent sound, characterized by a seamless blend of smooth jazz, R&B, and pop influences.

Over the years, Fourplay has released an impressive body of work, with their self-titled debut album 'Fourplay' establishing them as a significant force in the jazz community. Their albums, which often feature collaborations with other high-profile artists, showcase their virtuosic musicianship and synergy. Some of their most successful projects include 'Elixir' and 'Between the Sheets,' both of which have contributed to their sizable discography. 'Fourplay (30th Anniversary Edition)' is a testament to their longevity and the enduring appeal of their sophisticated, groove-oriented sound. Their ability to consistently create accessible yet intricate recordings has earned them critical acclaim, a loyal fanbase, and a distinguished place in contemporary jazz history.
