Cheatahs is a London-based alternative rock band known for its blending of shoegaze textures, noise-pop layers, and indie-rock songwriting. The band was formed in 2009 and initially included Nathan Hewitt (vocals, guitar), James Wignall (guitar, vocals), Dean Reid (bass, vocals), and Marc Raue (drums). They gained recognition in the indie music scene for their lush, effects-laden guitars and introspective lyrical content, reminiscent of 90s shoegaze and post-punk revival artists.
Their eponymous full-length debut "Cheatahs" arrived in 2014, which showcased their ability to meld catchy melodies with sonic experimentation. This was followed by a series of EPs and singles, such as "The Swan," "Cut The Grass / Kenworth," and "Sunne," that further developed their sound. Cheatahs' growth as a band was evident in the expansion of their soundscape and the complexity of their arrangements. The release of "Murasaki EP" and the more ambitious "Mythologies" in 2015 saw the band reaching new heights with an increasingly sophisticated approach to their multi-layered, effect-driven music, carving out a unique space for themselves within the alternative music genre. Despite a rather short-lived journey, with the band announcing an indefinite hiatus not long after "Mythologies," Cheatahs left a distinctive mark on the shoegaze and noise pop scene of the 2010s.
