Art Zoyd

Art Zoyd is a French band that has been a pioneering force in the avant-garde and experimental music scene since its formation in the late 1960s. Founded by Rocco Fernandez and Gérard Hourbette (who would become one of the group's main composers), Art Zoyd is known for blending a variety of influences, including contemporary classical music, progressive rock, jazz, and electronic elements. Throughout their career, they have become associated with the 'Rock In Opposition' movement, which sought to challenge and operate outside of the commercial music industry.

Art Zoyd's music is often characterized by its cinematic quality and has led them to work on soundtracks for silent films such as "Metropolis" and "La chute de la Maison Usher." They have also ventured into multimedia presentations that incorporate dance, image, and light, thus crossing the bridges between different art forms. The group has undergone numerous changes in its lineup over the years, yet they have consistently maintained an innovative approach to composition and performance. Their notable works include "Phase V" projects, which have explored a series of thematic compositions, such as "Les rives du futur" and "Kairo: Les particules noires." With the passing of Gérard Hourbette in 2018, the band continues to honor his legacy by performing and evolving his work, as observed in tribute concerts like "Et avec votre esprit - La forêt de samplers." Each of their projects pushes the boundaries of musical exploration, making Art Zoyd a hallmark of avant-garde expression.
