Valerio Losito is an accomplished baroque violinist and viola d'amore player, born in Rome in 1980. He graduated with highest honors in violin from the Conservatorio di Musica “Santa Cecilia” in Rome under Yvonne Ekman and later earned a Master’s degree with honors in early music and baroque violin studying under Enrico Onofri at the Conservatorio di Musica “Vincenzo Bellini” in Palermo. He specializes in historically informed performance, playing classical music from the late 14th to early 19th centuries on original instruments. Losito teaches baroque violin at the Alfredo Casella Conservatoire in L’Aquila and has played as soloist and concertmaster with notable ensembles such as Concerto Italiano, Modo Antiquo, and Mare Nostrum, performing across Europe, Russia, Japan, the USA, and Mexico.
In addition to his impressive classical repertoire, Losito is also involved in contemporary projects like the Alias Project, where he explores new repertoire for the viola d’amore using a historic Ferdinando Gagliano instrument. His recordings include works by composers such as Buxtehude, Tessarini, Telemann, and Veracini, often collaborating with musicians like Federico Del Sordo. Losito’s performances highlight the expressive possibilities of baroque string instruments and contribute to both early and contemporary music scenes.
