Roe-Deer

**Roe-Deer** is a quirky Japanese indie pop duo known for their candy-coated beats and playful, surrealist lyrics. Formed around 2018 by childhood friends Moe and Sakana (who go by pseudonyms), the pair built a cult following with DIY music videos shot in their hometown’s neon-lit arcades and kawaii-themed cafés. Tracks like “Aquaparty” and “Lollipop” showcase their signature blend of glitchy synths, hyperpop influences, and nostalgic ’00s J-pop flair, often likened to “Perfume meets a Tamagotchi on espresso.”

Despite their anonymity (they perform in matching deer masks), Roe-Deer’s whimsical live shows and anime-inspired aesthetics have earned them slots at niche festivals like Tokyo’s *Dream Shrine Offline*. Their 2023 single “Everforever” even scored a tie-in with a retro-futuristic mobile game, cementing their status as underground darlings. When not recording, the duo reportedly runs a tiny vintage toy shop in Osaka—because of course they do.
