The Arcis-Vocalisten Munich is a semi-professional chamber choir founded in 2005 by choir director Thomas Gropper in Munich, Germany. Originally intended as a project choir with just a few rehearsals per year, the group quickly grew in size and ambition to become a consistent, full-time ensemble known for their refined performances of choral masterworks, especially in the Baroque and Classical repertoire. They have worked closely with the period-instrument orchestra L’arpa festante and have gained recognition through concert tours across Europe and recordings on labels like OehmsClassics, often in collaboration with Bavarian Radio.
The choir’s repertoire spans a wide range of oratorical literature and a cappella works, with recent releases including Carl Loewe’s oratorios and Bach cantatas. They are praised for their clear, disciplined vocal style and their ability to bring emotional depth to complex works. Their conductor, Thomas Gropper, whose background in singing and vocal training influences his empathetic leadership, emphasizes the choir’s commitment and enthusiasm, which has helped the group navigate challenges such as the pandemic while maintaining strong bonds within the ensemble and with their audiences.
