Furze is the brainchild of Norwegian multi-instrumentalist Woe J. Reaper (born Christian Wibe), a cult figure in underground black metal since the late '90s. Known for its raw, riff-heavy sound and unapologetic DIY ethos, Furze blends primal black metal with psychedelic flourishes and occasional doom-laden grooves. Releases like *Baphomet Wade* and *The Presence of the Black Psych Tormentor* showcase their signature mix of lo-fi ferocity and eccentric experimentation, often leaning into occult themes with a theatrical, tongue-in-cheek approach (see song titles like "Post Mortem Trippin'"). Wibe’s cryptic persona and refusal to conform to genre expectations – from cassette-only releases to abrupt stylistic pivots – have cemented Furze as a weirdo’s favorite in the metal underground.
