Adema is an American nu metal band formed in 1999 in Bakersfield, California. The group gained significant attention with their self-titled debut album, "Adema," released in 2001. This initial offering, featuring the hit single "Giving In," encapsulated the angst and energy characteristic of the nu metal wave at the turn of the millennium. Adema's original lineup included Mark Chavez, the half-brother of Korn's Jonathan Davis, which only served to amplify the band's entry into the music scene.
Following their self-titled debut, Adema released a string of albums that charted their evolution and struggles, both musically and in terms of their lineup. "Insomniac's Dream" in 2002 presented fans with a nuanced EP that included new tracks along with live performances. Their sophomore effort, "Unstable" in 2003, stayed true to their heavy roots while exploring more personal and introspective lyrics, albeit being received with mixed reviews and commencing a period of turbulence within the band. After several changes in membership and a brief hiatus, they released "Planets" in 2005, which marked a shift toward a more alternative rock and less aggressive sound. Despite a hiatus and fluctuating band membership, Adema has persevered and continued to produce music, such as with "Kill the Headlights" (2007), though this effort featured a different lineup, with Bobby Reeves as the lead vocalist. Their most recent work, including the assertively titled single "Ready to Die" and the album "Violent Principles," showcases a return to their harder-edged roots and a reinvigoration of the band’s original dynamics, as Mark Chavez rejoined Adema in 2017. With their indelible mark on the nu metal scene and their ability to adapt and persevere through adversity, Adema continues to resonate with a dedicated fanbase and holds a notable place in the history of alternative metal.
