Death By Audio wasn't just a band, they were a force of nature – and a physical space. Formed in 2005, this noise-rock outfit called a DIY venue/art space in Williamsburg, Brooklyn their home, and it quickly became legendary. They were known for their chaotic and explosive live shows, fueled by heavily distorted guitars, pounding drums, and Oliver Ackermann's intense vocals. This raw energy translated into their recordings, capturing the visceral experience of their performances. Sadly, the venue closed in 2014, marking the end of an era for the band as well. But their music lives on, a testament to the power of community, creativity, and unbridled sonic exploration.
While the physical Death By Audio space is gone, its spirit continues to resonate. The band's influence can be heard in countless other artists, and their music continues to inspire. Beyond their own releases, members have been involved in other projects, including A Place to Bury Strangers and Sky White Tiger. Though their time as an active band has passed, Death By Audio remains a significant touchstone in the history of Brooklyn's vibrant DIY music scene.
