Thomas Fey is a German orchestral conductor born on November 9, 1960. He studied music and conducting at the University of Music and Performing Arts Mannheim and furthered his education in historically informed performance practice at the Salzburg Mozarteum under Nikolaus Harnoncourt. Fey also attended masterclasses with Leonard Bernstein at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival. In 1985, while still a student, he founded the Heidelberger Motetenchor, and in 1987, he established the Schlierbach Chamber Orchestra, which later became the Heidelberger Sinfoniker (Heidelberg Symphony Orchestra) in 1993. With the Heidelberger Sinfoniker, Fey embarked on a notable project: recording the complete symphonies of Joseph Haydn for the Hänssler Classic label.
Fey's recent releases include a variety of classical works, such as Handel's "Judas Maccabaeus," Haydn's "London Symphonies," and Mendelssohn's "Complete Symphonies," showcasing his versatility and dedication to classical music. His work with the Heidelberger Sinfoniker has been particularly noted for its comprehensive approach to Haydn's symphonies, reflecting Fey's deep understanding and appreciation of classical repertoire.
