Francesco De Masi was an Italian composer and conductor who made his mark in the world of film music. Born in 1930, De Masi studied composition at the San Pietro a Maiella Conservatory in Naples under his uncle, Achille Longo. He went on to compose scores for over 200 films and TV series, spanning genres from Spaghetti Westerns to horror films.
De Masi is perhaps best known for his work on Spaghetti Westerns, where he developed a distinctive sound that set him apart from other composers of the genre. He also scored action films and even ventured into Hollywood productions. Beyond his film work, De Masi was passionate about classical music, teaching at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory and conducting orchestras. He passed away in 2005 at the age of 75.
