Anja Bihlmaier

Anja Bihlmaier is a charismatic and passionate conductor known for her musical intuition and precision. She has been the Chief Conductor of the Residentie Orkest in The Hague since August 2021, where she combines inspiring leadership with a wide-ranging repertoire that spans composers from Haydn to Unsuk Chin. With frequent guest appearances leading major orchestras such as the BBC Philharmonic, London Philharmonic, and the Munich Philharmonic, she is recognized as one of the leading conductors of her generation.

Her musical journey started early, influenced by her parents' love of choir singing and her own study of violin, piano, and recorder. She began conducting at 16 and refined her skills studying at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg and Mozarteum Salzburg, working with renowned mentors like Dennis Russell Davies. Bihlmaier also brings rich opera experience from her engagements at theaters in Hannover, Chemnitz, and Kassel, recently conducting Wagner’s *Der Fliegende Holländer* and Verdi’s *La Traviata*. Her approachable style emphasizes open communication and trust with musicians, making live music experiences special both on and off the podium.
