Collegium Aureum was a German chamber orchestra founded in 1962, known for being one of the pioneers in the historically informed performance movement. Based at Schloss Kirchheim in Swabia, they specialized in Baroque and early Classical repertoire, often performing on period instruments to capture an authentic sound. The ensemble, initially a project of the record label Deutsche Harmonia Mundi, featured a flexible roster of talented musicians under the artistic guidance of conductor and violist Franzjosef Maier. With a warm and lively style, Collegium Aureum brought fresh energy to works by composers like J.S. Bach, Telemann, and Corelli, helping to popularize historically accurate interpretations well before it became a widespread practice.
