Felpeyu

Felpeyu is an esteemed folk band known for their passionate renditions and contemporary arrangements of Asturian traditional music. Formed in the early 1990s in Asturias, a region in the north of Spain, the band has consistently highlighted the rich musical heritage of their homeland while infusing it with a modern sensibility that has appealed to both purists and new audiences. Their name, which translates to ‘wet dog’ in Asturian dialect, reflects the group's playful and down-to-earth approach to their music.

Over the years, Felpeyu has become one of the ambassadors of Asturian folk music on the international stage. With a lineup that includes traditional instruments such as the gaita (Asturian bagpipes), fiddle, and bouzouki, as well as guitar and bass, they successfully blend the old with the new. Their discography, which includes seminal albums like "Saltones Expósitos," "Cerquina," "Yá!," "Tierra," "Felpeyu," "Canteros," and the live recording "Live Overseas," showcases the evolution of their sound and their commitment to bringing Asturian music to the forefront of the world music scene. Through a mixture of original compositions and reinterpretations of traditional melodies, Felpeyu has secured their place as innovative custodians of Asturian cultural heritage.
