Dave Bixby is an American singer-songwriter from Grand Rapids, Michigan, best known for his deeply personal 1969 folk album *Ode to Quetzalcoatl*. This album captures his intense journey through addiction, depression, and a spiritual rebirth after a period of heavy LSD use, reflecting his conversion to Christianity. Over the years, Bixby developed a unique loner acid folk style and led the Harbinger Orchestra, a collaborative project inviting musicians worldwide to interpret his work from their homes. Beyond music, his life has been marked by adventurous experiences including living off the land, working as a park ranger, and sailing the Colorado River in a boat he built himself.
After his early days playing in folk bands during high school, Bixby embraced the counterculture before a profound shift led him to a Michigan-based Christian group known as The Group. He later left to continue his life as a wandering musician and adventurer. His seminal album *Ode to Quetzalcoatl* gained cult status and was reissued in 2009, drawing renewed attention from collectors and folk enthusiasts. His recent works, including *Terraferma* and *Return of Quetzalcoatl*, continue exploring spiritual and existential themes with a folk sensibility that remains haunting and evocative.
