Grupo Asere

Grupo Asere is a dynamic Cuban band formed in Havana in the 1990s by a group of young musicians inspired by traditional Cuban son music. Their sound blends deep respect for their musical ancestors like Ignacio Piñeiro and Arsenio Rodríguez with fresh, contemporary energy, creating roots music that feels both authentic and innovative. Known as “Son del Nuevo Milenio” by the legendary Eliades Ochoa, Asere has been a significant force in revitalizing Cuban music globally, especially in Europe and the United States, with an 11-piece lineup featuring rich instrumentation from horns and strings to percussion and multiple guitars. Their debut album, *Cuban Soul* (1998), introduced their soulful, heartfelt approach, and they have since released several albums while collaborating with notable artists like drummer Billy Cobham.

Asere's music is a joyous celebration of Cuba’s vibrant musical traditions, mixing son, rumba, salsa, and more with powerful performances and inventive songwriting. Despite early challenges due to limited support in Cuba, they built a loyal international following through spirited live shows and authentic recordings that honor the legacy of Cuban music while pushing it forward for new generations.
