Molasses Barge

Molasses Barge is a doom metal band from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, formed in 2008 by Wayne Massey on drums, Brian "Butch" Balich on vocals, and Justin Gizzi on guitar. Initially intended as a side project, the band gained momentum with the addition of second guitarist Ken Houser in 2009 and bassist Amy Bianco in 2010. They released several EPs and played numerous shows in the region. Over the years, the band has undergone lineup changes, with notable contributions from guitarists Dave Fresch and Barry Mull. Their discography includes EPs like "Jewels" and full-length albums such as their self-titled debut and "A Grayer Dawn."

Molasses Barge has been a staple of Pittsburgh's heavy music scene, known for their traditional doom metal sound. The band's music often features deep, resonant vocals and heavy, plodding riffs, characteristic of the doom genre. Despite lineup changes, the core of the band has remained committed to their sound and style. Unfortunately, the band is now listed as split-up, with drummer Wayne Massey passing away in 2025.
