Funkykarkurit

Funkykarkurit is a Finnish pop band that was formed in Jyväskylä in 1991. The band originated from a group called Collection Blues Band, which was established in the late 1980s and initially focused on blues music in English. However, after switching to Finnish lyrics and adopting a funk style, the band found success and became known as Funkykarkurit, a name that was chosen through a radio contest. The band consisted of members like Janne Kettunen and Riku Moilanen, and they were active until around 1996. During their career, Funkykarkurit released several albums, including *Haihtua ilmaan*, *Mystinen mies*, *Karkuteillä*, and *Hetkestä kiinni*. They also participated in the Finnish Eurovision selection process in 1996 with the song "Elämän tivoli," finishing in fourth place.

Their music spanned a variety of styles influenced by the diverse musical backgrounds of the band members, from classical to speed metal. Funkykarkurit received an Emma nomination for "Newcomer of the Year" in 1992, highlighting their impact on the Finnish music scene during the early 1990s. Despite their relatively short active period, they left a mark with their lively performances and unique sound that blended funk with pop elements.
