Gene Loves Jezebel

Gene Loves Jezebel is a British gothic rock and alternative band that originally formed in the early 1980s. The group was founded by identical twin brothers Michael and John Aston, who brought dramatic flair and romanticism to the post-punk and goth scenes of the time. Their blend of glam-infused rock, soaring vocals, and poetic lyrics helped them stand out, particularly with hits like “Motion of Love,” “Desire,” and “Jealous.” Their emotional intensity and melodramatic style gained them a devoted following on both sides of the Atlantic.

Over the years, Gene Loves Jezebel experienced lineup changes and a well-known split between the Aston brothers, eventually resulting in two separate bands using the same name—one led by Jay (Michael) Aston in the UK and another by John Aston in the US. Despite the split, both versions have continued to record and tour, keeping the spirit of Gene Loves Jezebel alive. The band’s sound has evolved over time, but they’ve remained connected to their roots in dark, anthemic rock. Releases like Dance Underwater and X - Love Death Sorrow show that Gene Loves Jezebel continues to find new ways to reinterpret their signature sound.
