Fiorenza Cossotto is an Italian mezzo-soprano, widely considered one of the greatest operatic talents of the 20th century. Her career spanned over three decades, during which she delighted audiences with her rich voice, passionate performances, and compelling stage presence. Born on April 22, 1935, in Crescentino, Province of Vercelli, Cossotto attended the Turin Academy of Music and debuted triumphantly at La Scala in 1957 in a production of "Aida."

Cossotto specialized in the Italian repertoire, particularly the works of Verdi and Donizetti, but she was also acclaimed for her interpretations of Bizet's "Carmen," which became one of her signature roles. Her discography includes illustrious recordings such as the 1968 live performance of "Don Carlo" under the baton of conductor Ottavio Ziino and several operas from composers like Bellini and Gluck. In addition to her vast commercial recordings, her live recordings also capture the incredible dynamism and emotional depth she brought to her roles—whether singing the formidable arias of "Norma" or the intimate exclusivity of Verdi's "Rigoletto." Now recognized as a legend of the opera world, Fiorenza Cossotto's remarkable vocal quality and artistry have ensured her legacy continues to inspire new generations of opera lovers.
