Faysal Alawi was a renowned Yemeni singer and oudist born in 1949 in the village of Al-Shaq'a, Tuban, in the former Sultanate of Lahej. Celebrated as a pioneer of Lahiji music, he earned widespread fame throughout Yemen, the Arabian Peninsula, and Gulf countries for his masterful oud playing and soulful singing. Launching his artistic career in 1958 with the song "I Ask You with Love, O Beautiful Fatin," Alawi became a beloved cultural icon, known affectionately as "the king of Oud." Beyond his musical talents, he was deeply influenced by poet Prince Ahmad Fadl Al-Qamandan and artist Fadl Muhammad Al-Lahiji, who shaped his artistic style and helped him hone his craft. Throughout his life, he toured extensively, performing concerts and musical evenings in Yemen and other Arab countries, cementing his legacy as one of Yemen’s most prominent and enduring folk artists. Alawi passed away on February 7, 2010, leaving behind a rich musical heritage that continues to inspire listeners across the Arab world.
