Hal David

Hal David (1921–2012) was an American lyricist best known for his long-running partnership with composer Burt Bacharach. Together they wrote a huge run of classic pop songs in the 1960s and ’70s, many of them made famous by artists like Dionne Warwick, Dusty Springfield, and B.J. Thomas. David’s lyrics were known for their plainspoken, emotionally direct style—smart, conversational, and built for melodies that stick.

One of his most famous credits is “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head,” written with Bacharach for *Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid*—a song that became a major standard and helped cement their place in pop history. Over his career, David earned major industry honors, including Academy Awards and Grammy recognition, and he remains one of the most influential lyric writers of the modern songwriting era.
