Mark Lockheart

Mark Lockheart is a British jazz saxophonist, composer, and bandleader known for his distinctive, lyrical approach to tenor sax and his deep roots in the UK’s modern jazz scene. He’s long been associated with the influential British jazz group Perfect Houseplants, and he’s also widely recognized for his work with Polar Bear, one of the key UK bands to blend jazz improvisation with more contemporary, groove-forward textures.

Alongside his collaborations, Lockheart has built a substantial catalog under his own name, often balancing tuneful writing with open, exploratory playing. He’s also part of the co-led group Dill Katz, further underlining his reputation as a musician who thrives in both tightly composed settings and more free-ranging, collective improvisations.
