The Obsessed
The Obsessed is a seminal American doom metal band formed in the late 1970s by guitarist and vocalist Scott "Wino" Weinrich. Hailing from Maryland, they were one of the earliest bands to help shape the doom metal genre, blending heavy, Sabbath-inspired riffs with raw energy and gritty, honest lyrics. Though they experienced several breakups and lineup changes over the decades, Wino's distinctive playing and songwriting remained the backbone of the group.
The band gained a cult following with albums like their self-titled debut and Lunar Womb, and Wino's influence extended into other major doom outfits like Saint Vitus and Spirit Caravan. After periods of dormancy, The Obsessed returned in the 2010s with renewed intensity, releasing new material and touring widely. Their recent releases, like Gilded Sorrow and Realize A Dream, prove the band is not just a legacy act—they’re still pushing forward with crushing riffs and a defiant spirit.
