Formosa Quartet

**Formosa Quartet** is a Grammy-nominated string quartet celebrated for weaving Taiwanese cultural roots with classical mastery. Formed in 2002 by a group of friends at top music schools (Juilliard, Curtis, and New England Conservatory), the ensemble—originally featuring Jasmine Lin, Wayne Lee, Che-Yen Chen, and Deborah Pae—has championed both traditional repertoire and contemporary works. They made history in 2006 as the first Asian-American ensemble to win First Prize at the London International String Quartet Competition, cementing their reputation for passionate, dynamic performances.

Known for bridging East and West, the quartet often collaborates with composers like Shih-Hui Chen (their album *Returning Souls* features her hauntingly beautiful work) and explores cross-cultural projects, such as *From Hungary to Taiwan*. Their recordings, including explorations of George Frederick McKay’s music and Brahms’ piano quintets, showcase their versatility. Based in the U.S. but deeply connected to Taiwan, they’ve performed everywhere from Lincoln Center to Taipei’s National Concert Hall, blending technical precision with storytelling that honors their heritage.
