African Head Charge

African Head Charge is a dub-reggae ensemble, masterminded by percussionist Bonjo Iyabinghi Noah, and was founded during the early 1980s in the United Kingdom. Initially conceived as a studio project by producer Adrian Sherwood, the group merges the boundaries of dub, psychedelia, and tribal rhythms, creating a unique and experimental sound that has reverberated throughout the world of alternative music. Influenced by Jamaican reggae and driven by the ethos of African percussion, African Head Charge's music is a spiritual and social journey, using the studio as an instrument and drawing upon a diverse set of vocal and rhythmic textures from African traditions.

Over the years, African Head Charge has released a host of critically acclaimed albums, each a testament to their evolving sound and the visionary approach of Noah and Sherwood. Their extensive discography includes such standout works as "Vision Of A Psychedelic Africa," where the ensemble explores connections between African traditional music and the then-burgeoning electronic scene. With performances that can be deeply hypnotic, African Head Charge has successfully carved out a niche that is both respectful of its roots and boldly innovative. From landmark albums like "In Pursuit of Shashamane Land" to live recordings such as "In Charge - Live in Japan," their music continues to inspire audiences with its fusion of earthy grooves and experimental dub.
