Sutari is a contemporary folk music trio from Poland, aptly named after an old Polish word meaning "to harmonize" or "to tune". The trio is composed of Kasia Kapela, Basia Songin, and Zosia Zembrzuska, three vocalists and instrumentalists who met on the Warsaw alternative music scene and discovered their shared passion for traditional music. Sutari’s music is deeply rooted in Eastern European folk traditions but is delivered with a modern twist, embodying both the rural spirit and the energy of the city.
Since their formation, Sutari has been captivating audiences with their inventive approach, utilizing traditional instruments like the fiddle and folk percussion alongside less conventional means like kitchen utensils and water-filled glasses to create their signature sound. They have garnered acclaim for their ability to adapt folklore into expressive performances, often incorporating elements of storytelling, theater, and poetry. With a repertoire that includes both interpretations of traditional songs and original compositions, their music is a reflection of their experimentation and a tribute to the old songs of Slavic women. Albums such as "Wiano", and releases like "Tamoj" and "The Flying Swans" showcase their ability to bridge heritage with imagination, forming a musical narrative that is both innovative and evocative of the past.
