Pedro Iturralde (1929–2020) was a Spanish jazz saxophonist and composer, widely regarded as one of the key figures in bringing modern jazz into Spain. Born in Falces, Navarre, he became especially known for his work on alto saxophone and for blending jazz language with Spanish musical forms—most famously through his pioneering “jazz flamenco” projects.
Across a long career, Iturralde worked in small-group jazz settings and wrote extensively for his instrument, helping build a homegrown Spanish jazz scene while also connecting it to wider international currents. Albums like *Jazz Flamenco* remain his best-known calling card, capturing the adventurous, cross-cultural approach that made him such an important name in European jazz.
