Fumito Nunoya is a renowned marimbist born in Odate, Japan, a small city in Akita Prefecture. He has gained international recognition as one of today's leading marimbists. Nunoya began his musical journey playing the piano at the age of seven and later became fascinated with the marimba during his elementary school years. He pursued his passion for music by studying at Yamagata University and later at the Boston Conservatory, where he focused on marimba performance under notable instructors like Nancy Zeltsman and Patrick Holenberg. Nunoya has won several competitions, including the Percussive Arts Society International Marimba Competition and the World Marimba Competition, and has performed with orchestras such as the Houston Symphony Orchestra.
Nunoya is known for his diverse repertoire, which includes classical and contemporary works. His recent releases showcase his versatility, with albums like "Marimba Prayers," "fusions and fantasies," "Concertos on Marimba," "Piazzolla on Marimba," and "Classics on Marimba." Currently, he is an Adams Marimba Artist, and his signature marimba mallets are soon to be released by Pearl/Adams Japan.
